Review of the 2010 Ford Super Duty F-450
Introduction
The Ford Super Duty F-450 full-size pick-up truck has earned the distinction of being one of the toughest, most capable heavy-duty pick-up trucks in the United States. With class-leading towing and hauling abilities, strong performance, and a comfortable ride while towing, the 2010 Ford Super Duty F-450 is available in crew cab style with X, XL, FX4, and Lariat trims.
Exterior Design and Special Features
When properly equipped, the 2010 Ford Super Duty F-450 delivers a massive best-in-class maximum payload of 6,190 lbs. The F-450's Super Duty frame is the foundation of its Built Ford Tough capability. For strength and durability, cross-members are riveted, welded or both. Another strengthening measure, the hydro-formed front-end assembly is entirely spot welded.
Ford Work Solutions, an optional suite of four innovative, industry-first technologies ranging from communications and computing to navigation, fleet tracking and security, is available on XL, XLT, and FX4. A navigation system with Satellite Radio includes a 6.5-inch in-dash touch-screen, DVD/ROM/CD player with MP3 capability, AM/FM radio, USB port, voice-activated controls, digital clock, eight speakers, and an optional subwoofer.
Engine
A 350-hp 6.4-liter OHV 32-valve Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel engine powers the 2010 Ford Super Duty F-450. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a five-speed automatic optional. There is also a choice of either two- or four-wheel drive.
Safety
The 2010 Ford Super Duty F-450 has the first available factory-installed, fully integrated Trailer Brake Controller (TBC) in a full-size pick-up. The TBC is integrated with the ABS and synchronizes vehicle and trailer brakes for seamless braking, even with the heaviest loads. Telescoping trailer tow mirrors have also been included.
The optional rear view camera system on XLT, FX4, and Lariat displays a wide view for reversing as well as a clear picture of the hitch - useful when hooking up the trailer. The camera is mounted in the tailgate handle and monitored in the self-dimming interior rearview mirror.
